Amy Schumer has poked fun at Taylor Swift fans who were upset at her joke about the singer's thigh gap.

The comedian took to Instagram on Wednesday, sharing a photo of herself in a short blonde wig and made up with a beard for a tongue-in-cheek post.

'I am a comic and should never make fun of myself at the expense of anyone else that I wasn't making fun of in the first place,' wrote Amy, adding hashtag '#relax.'

The 34-year-old wears a short blonde wig and some dark stubble in the photo, which appeared to be taken backstage at her Comedy Central show.

The post appeared to be a response to her Instagram post about Taylor Swift's thigh gap on Tuesday, which earned Amy a backlash from some commentators.

The gag came after songwriter Taylor flashed her slender legs in a revealing shorts-and-skirt combo while on the Grammys red carpet on Monday.

The comedian was slammed in the comments by angry Taylor Swift fans, who accused her of body-shamming the Bad Blood singer.

'Everyone's body is beautiful because its something that makes you unique. Thigh gap or no thigh gap we are all human. Putting someone else's body down to make a point just shows how bitter people can be,' wrote one commentator.

'You look beautiful, a girl doesn't need a thigh gap to be gorgeous. But the thing is, u understand you're a comedian but don't you think it also hurts Taylor's feelings? Every woman deserves to feel confident,' added one Taylor fan.

But there were also plenty of people who defended Amy, with one person writing: 'Seriously get over it. Can't take a joke. Ease up.'

Over the weekend, the comedian and her furniture designer boyfriend Ben Hanisch also shared two cute photos for Valentine's Day on Instagram.
